USAA is one of the top insurers in the country, and their mobile app is one of the best, too. In 2023, the app scored a 4.8 rating on the Apple Store and a 4.3 rating on the Google Play Store. It tops most lists for excellent online and customer service experiences, and the app even allows its users to access their banking information on the platform. Furthermore, users can file claims and ask for roadside assistance all in one place.
USAA also offers the SafePilot app for free on Android and iOS. This app monitors driver behavior and makes suggestions for improvement.
2. State Farm
State Farm has increased its digital offering and now has five different apps. The most popular are the State Farm mobile app and the State Farm Drive Safe & Save app. While the regular mobile app allows users to view IDs, file claims, and pay their bills, the Drive Safe & Save app records driving habits. All users that sign up with this app are eligible for a premium discount.
State Farm scored 4.8 and 4.6 on the Apple Store and Google Play Store, respectively, for their mobile app. The Drive Safe & Save app scored 4.6 and 4.1, respectively.
The GEICO mobile app boasts near-perfect scores on the Apple and Google Play Stores. The app is a centralized location for users to access their policy and account information. The platform makes it easy to add additional cars and rivers, and like other well-performing apps, users on the GEICO app can also file claims and get help if they are stuck on the road.
Additionally, GEICO also has a telematics app that tracks driving behavior. Based on their risk profile, drivers displaying positive driving behavior may receive a lower car insurance rate.
Allstate prides itself on offering an array of features on its mobile app, including telematics, online claims, and roadside assistance. All of these features reside in one app to increase the convenience factor. This app may not be as fancy as the others, but it gets the job done and earned itself a 4.8 user review on the Apple Store.
Progressive is the last entry in the top five best mobile apps list for 2023. Like Allstate, Progressive offers only one app for policy information, claims, payments, and quotes. It may not have all the bells and whistles of the top-rated apps, but users love the functionality, hence its high scores on the Apple and Google Play Stores.
Starting the list of the worst insurance mobile apps is Shelter. While it offers some crucial features like paying bills and filing claims, the app’s functionality is not what it should be. The app is also incompatible with certain smartphones, which can become a huge issue. For this reason, the app scored only 3 out of 5 stars on the Forbes Advisor list of the Best Car Insurance Company Mobile Apps 2023.
While COUNTRY Financial Auto Insurance earned five stars for performance, its mobile app lags far behind. It received only two and a half stars on the Forbes list, and most complaints about the app are technical issues. Many users experienced inconvenient problems with the app when they needed roadside assistance, with logged requests not showing up on the company’s server.
8. MetLife Auto
MetLife scored a dismal one star on the Forbes list, and users are complaining of constant error messages that leave them unable to view policy information or make payments. Some users can’t register on the app, with error messages popping up when they enter their email address and phone number.
Moreover, it seems that when the app is working, it is not user-friendly and contains blank screens and navigation buttons that don’t work.
